Role Requirements: The Specialist Academic Coordinator role is essential in planning and ensuring quality delivery of support packages to Students within an Education based setting, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The role is focused on students who fall under the NMH/DSA requirements. The role additionally entails coordinating the support for Students who receive either specialist mentoring or study skills support at university. The Specialist Academic Coordinator will work with individuals who may have physical and/or psychological needs; for example, neurological conditions, spinal injury, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health issues.
Suitable candidates for the role will be observant, analytical, well-organised individuals with a caring attitude and a desire to improve the lives of others. They must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to convey sensitive information to people we support, their families (where appropriate) and colleagues.
The role is essentially two-fold whereby not only will the Academic Coordinator be coordinating the support but there will also be an element of delivery. The Specialist Mentor will be responsible for organising sessions with assigned students and delivering those sessions on a flexible basis. Appropriate records of sessions, including goals worked towards each session would also be required. The role includes working with individuals who may face barriers to learning due to a variety of reasons.
