Vacancy: Lead Teacher (SEND)

Contract Status – Important Information
This role will initially commence on a part-time basis. However, due to the rapid growth of this new service, we anticipate that the position will increase to full-time within a matter of weeks. Applicants must be able to acknowledge this requirement and be fully prepared and available to transition to a full-time role as the service develops.
Salary and hours: This role is salaried; FTE equates to £35,500 to £38,000 per annum – experience dependant. The service once in full time operation will be; Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:00

About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Teacher to join our specialist education provision in collaboration with Newcastle County Council at Great Park Community Centre (with the possibility of other locations to be added in the Newcastle area). This is a key leadership role combining high-quality teaching with on-site responsibility and people management. Initially the role would commence on a part time basis, but as our service grows
You will deliver engaging, person-centred learning from our bespoke curriculum, supporting students to overcome barriers to learning while developing independence, confidence, and life skills. Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will act as the Lead on Site or across sites, providing day-to-day oversight, supporting staff, and building strong relationships with families and external professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver good and outstanding teaching in line with the Ofsted framework and National Curriculum guidance
- Lead and line manage a small team of teachers, completing supervisions, appraisals, and probation reviews
- Act as the on-site lead, responding to daily operational needs and ensuring a safe, well-run learning environment
- Oversee educational documentation including ILPs, EHCPs, care plans, and transition plans
- Work collaboratively with families, attending reviews alongside the line manager
- Build positive working relationships with the Local Authority, schools, and internal teams
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs
- Monitor progress, gather evidence of learning, and maintain accurate records using internal systems (e.g. Log My Care)
- Support enrichment and extra-curricular activities such as swimming, nature walks, and community learning
- Promote and safeguard the welfare, wellbeing, and education of all students at all times

- A qualified and experienced teacher with a strong understanding of SEND and trauma-informed practice
- Confident leadership skills with the ability to support, motivate, and develop others
- Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with families and external professionals
- A calm, flexible, and solution-focused approach in a dynamic learning environment
- A strong commitment to person-centred education and positive outcomes for young people
Safeguarding & Professional Practice
- A clear commitment to safeguarding and child protection
- Ability to act professionally at all times and follow all policies and procedures
- Willingness to undertake ongoing training and development
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance
- Ability to meet the physical and emotional demands of a specialist education environment
