My role at KEYFORT: Lead Teacher
Previous Experience / Background:
Prior to qualifying as a teacher and gaining my QTS in 2023, I worked for many years in education as an unqualified teacher, assistant SENCO, HLTA and TA. I also enjoyed a career as a local authority Children’s Social Worker for several years, after studying for my BA (Hons) degree at Newcastle University and MA degree and Diploma in Social Work at Durham University in 1998. My background as both a front-line, social care practitioner and educational teacher enables me to bring a wealth of lived experience into my current role as Lead Teacher, with a deep pedagogical understanding of teaching and learning viewed through a trauma-informed lens. As a single parent to a wonderful young junior doctor and a fun-loving, 6-year-old cocker spaniel (named Oscar Wilde), I am passionate about everything learning-related! I believe we never stop growing and learning as human beings and I am deeply committed to supporting our wonderful children, young people and their families in both their personal and academic journey’s.
One fun fact about me:
As a former Ovarian Cancer warrior, I love to keep fit and healthy. I have run many full and half-marathons to date – two of my favourites being dressed as a Roman gladiator whilst running along the length of Hadrian’s Wall and completing solo runs around the active volcanic craters of Mount Vesuvius and Mount Teide in Italy and Tenerife!
